The secret behind its benefits

Three weeks before harvest, the tea plants are shaded from sunlight using opaque nets. To compensate, they produce an intense concentration of chlorophyll, amino acids, vitamins, nutrients, trace elements, and powerful antioxidants — giving matcha its exceptional qualities.

The youngest shoots from the first harvest of the year are briefly steamed, naturally dried, and finally stone-ground into powder using traditional Japanese craftsmanship.

It is recognised as a healthy coffee alternative thanks to L-Theanine, which provides long-lasting energy without jitters or anxiety.

The origin of matcha

Matcha originated in China. In 1191, Buddhist monks brought seeds from China and planted them in the garden of their temple in Kyoto. They discovered that drinking it helped them stay focused and alert during their long hours of meditation.

They turned it into a ritual — a ceremony — built on four core principles: harmony (wa), respect (kei), purity (sei), and tranquility (jaku). This ceremony is also known as "Chanoyu", the Way of Tea.

Later, samurai warriors also adopted the matcha ceremony and consumed it for its medicinal properties, as well as before battle — for the sustained energy and mental clarity it provided.
